PGA Farmers Insurance Open 2015 – Golf Channel Fantasy Picks

PGA Farmers Insurance Open 2015 – Golf Channel Fantasy Picks

Our last week in Golf Channel Fantasy were mixed We were lights out in the european tour event, but crappy in the PGA. Overall,  Nothing to write home about but not terrible either. This week, it’s different. We’re going to win.

So to make a long story short. The most important stats this week are: All Around Ranking, Distance, Par 5 Scoring and more proximity to hole than GIR, due to the size of the greens. With that being said, the Greens at Torrey Pines are Poa Annua and are pretty tricky to putt on later in the day because of all the bumps that accumulate. So elite putters seem to play well here too. Guys like Brandt Sneaker and Aaron Baddeley play well here. Top Putters. However, even the short putts get missed here, so sometimes that ‘s in favour of bad putters because others will be missing putts they were going to miss anyway.

A little run down on the course or courses.

This tournament is played over 2 courses, Torrey Pines North and Torrey Pines South.

  • Torrey Pines (South) is a 7,698 par-72 layout featuring four par 5s and four par 3s.
  • Torrey Pines (North) is a 7,052 par-72 layout featuring four par 5s and four par 3s.

Of these two courses, Torrey Pines South is the only course played on Saturday and Sunday. As you can see above, it’s the much longer of the two courses, so it is a must that a player take advantage on the short North course.

Now onto our picks for are Golf Channel Fantasy TEAMS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rickie Fowler – He has great course history here and I think last week was just a warm up from a break. He’ll be back playing golf like he was at the end of last season. He won’t string together 2 crappy performances in a row.

Justin Thomas – He’s just playing too well right now not to take him. He’s finished 10th here and there’s no reason to think he can’t win. This years Spieth.

Brendan Steele – He disappointed some last week by finishing 26th, but that just means, people will lay off here. He has a good track record over this course. he’s playing pretty well coming in and fits most of the criteria needed to excel on this track.

Aaron Baddeley – Solid track record here and seems to be playing some good golf in the past months. A great putter that knows how to get by on these tough greens.

PGA Waste Management Phoenix Open 2015 – Omega Dubai Desert Classic – Golf Channel Fantasy Picks

PGA Waste Management Phoenix Open 2015 – Omega Dubai Desert Classic – Golf Channel Fantasy Picks

Our picks last week for Golf Channel Fantasy were atrocious. No more risks here. We are just throwing out the best players from now on. We learned a hard lesson.

Now onto this week. We have two tournaments. Let us start with the Phoenix Open.

The Waste Management Phoenix Open may be the most exciting final 4 holes in golf. There are 2 eagle opportunities with the Par 5,15th and the short par 4, 17th. Throw in the raucous crowd at the par 3, 16th, and you have a recipe for noise and mayhem coming down the stretch at the TPC Scottsdale.

The course is a Par 71, measuring 7216 yards, with 79 sand bunkers which are strategically placed around the greens and on the fairways. There are also 6 holes which feature water, including 3 of the last 4 holes.

Scoring is generally low, so players can be aggressive on this course, however they have to pick their moments as several holes can jump up and bite you hard. Looking at the past 10 winners they have averaged -18, so expect the same this year unless the weather is out of the ordinary.

In 2014, Kevin Stadler and Graham DeLaet finished 1-2, both players are horrible putters. When you go down the past leaderboards and take a look at the top 60-70 putters on tour from 2014, you’ll only see something just larger than a handful of them on both lists. However, if you look at the top 60-70 GIR players on Tour, you’ll see Stadler, Delaet Watson, Howell, Moore, Steele, Hoffman, Haas, Stanley, Mahan, Dufner and many more.

So unlike most tournaments, putting doesn’t matter as much here. Some years, of course hot putters bring home the championship, but here, in many cases, the top is riddled with players who were just average putters for the week.

This explains why being a precise iron player and a long hitter is beneficial at the Phoenix Open. If you can dominate the Par 5’s and the short par 4 all week, that’s half your score, and that gives you a chance for a win.

The second tournament is the Omega Dubai Desert Classic.

The Omega Dubai Desert Classic was born in 1989 when the European Tour visited the Middle East for the first time. It’s played at the Emirates Golf Club which is a Par 72, 7316 yards.

The one thing about this course is that distance off the tee is essential. If you look at the course history, you’ll see Ernie Els everywhere and Stephen Gallacher was knocking the ball 300 yards when he went back to back here. Quiros won here too and he was a one dimensional long hitter too.

WASTE MANAGEMENT PHOENIX OPEN PICKS

Bubba Watson – The best player in the field

Gary Woodland – Great player with perfect game for course.

Scott Piercy – His record here is impeccable.

Pat Perez – A cut maker with upside.

OMEGA DUBAI DESERT CLASSIC

Rory Mcilory – Best player in the world

Stephen Gallacher – Loves this place. Back to back winner.

Eduardo Molinari – Has a pretty decent track record here.

Robert Rock – Has some pretty good finishes at this course.

PGA Humana Challenge 2015 – Golf Channel Fantasy Picks – Daily Fantasy Golf

PGA Humana Challenge 2015 – Golf Channel Fantasy Picks – Daily Fantasy Golf

Last week, we had to pick both the PGA and the Euro, and we did pretty good at both. This week, we’re back to 1 tournament and we’re going to be unconventional this week. We love Golf Channel Fantasy and daily fantasy golf. (SEO YES!)

Lets get the tourney info out of the way first, Shall we?

They play 3 different courses for this tournament in Palm Springs, California.

PGA West – Palmer Private 6,930 yard par 72 will sever as the host course and final-round competition will take place here.

PGA West – Nicklaus Private 6,951 yard par 72 will be one of three courses utilized in the first three rounds.

La Quinta Country Club 7,060 par 72 will be the third course, and will host action during the first three rounds.

As you can see these courses are all very, very, very, short. In the history of this tournament, many short and accurate hitters have won over this terrain: Pat Perez, Mark Wilson, Brian Gay, DJ Trahan, Chad Campbell, Mike Weir, Justin Leonard, and Kenny Perry.

This doesn’t mean big hitters won’t do well, of course they can play well here. They’ll have some really short irons into the greens. I’m just saying, of the many tournaments of the year, this one evens out the playing field a little for the accurate and short to mid range players.

Now, onto our Golf Channel Fantasy Picks!

Zach Johnson – I just think he’s the safest pick here.

Ryan Palmer – He’s coming in hot and he’s a must play here for me.

Daniel Summerhays – He’s very consistent and I like his upside. He’s getting better and he’s coming off a good week.

Luke Guthrie – Has made both of his cuts over this terrain and he’s coming off a good start.

So that’s pretty much the end of this blog post, besides plugging another one of my most totally sweet posts, like THIS ONE FOR TIERED PICKS AT THE HUMANA CHALLENGE.

Golf Channel Fantasy Picks – Frys 2014

It’s our first crack at the golf channel fantasy and we here at best daily fantasy site are super excited to be apart of the action. We believe, that based on FRYS  course history, Cordevalle plays to long hitters as they don’t have to worry about the short rough. Grip it and rip it. This gives these guys short irons into the greens with the ability to stop it. So without further adieu, our picks are in for this week and this is who we like.

  • Group 1

    Jimmy Walker
We chose Walker over Kuchar due to his course history. You could have gone either way, but we wen’t with the tried and true.
  • Group 2

    Brooks Koepka
We wanted to go with Jason Kokrak, but we eventually decided with the Vegas odds and chose Koepka. He has an international reputation and we thought, until we see more from Kokrak, lets not rock the boat as of yet.
  • Group 3

    Robert Streb
He hits it long and that’s the perfect recipe for this course. he should have no problem hitting greens in 2 and getting out of the short rough. A cut make and cheque earner.
  • Group 4

    Jeff Overton
Overton is one of our favourite picks this week. he’s got good course history and he hits it pretty long too. We think he cashes a nice cheque this week.
